Terms for contributors
What you agree to when you file a report here, in plain words. Version 2026-09-30.
What a report is
A report is the animal you saw, where and when, any photos you add, and any notes. We publish it on the map, in the list of records and in the statistics, so that anyone working to protect Taiwan's wildlife can use it.
How others may use it
Every report is published under CC0. You waive your copyright in the photo and the record as far as the law allows, so anyone may copy and use them for anything, without asking you or naming you. That is how the team wants the records shared: openly, for anyone working to protect Taiwan's wildlife.
Credit
Records are not credited to a person, and we never show your email address. Reports filed before 30 September 2026 with the option to be credited keep the credit they were given.
Where the animal was
The exact location is kept in our database only. The public sees it blurred for any species that is protected or rated sensitive, and for a record nobody has identified yet; see why on the About page. Invasive species are shown at their exact location.
Sharing with research partners
On the roadkill page you can also choose to share a record, including its exact location, with the Taiwan Roadkill Observation Network (TaiRON, 路殺社), run by the Taiwan Biodiversity Research Institute, which uses it to find the roads where animals die. It is a separate box, and it starts unticked. Nothing is sent to anyone until TaiRON has agreed to take records from this site; if you ticked the box before then, your record is sent when that happens.
Taking a report back
Write to us and we will remove your report and your contact address from this site. We cannot recall copies other people have already made under CC0.
If you are under 18
Please talk to a parent or guardian before you file a report or share a record with a partner.
If these terms change
Each report records the version of these terms it was filed under. A change applies to reports filed after it, never to ones filed before.
