Wildlife records
The imported records are the Taiwan Roadkill Observation Network (TaiRON, 路殺社)'s open roadkill records for 2011–2017. We obtained them through GBIF (the Global Biodiversity Information Facility), an international open database of where species have been recorded. They are shared under CC BY 4.0, which requires this credit.

Species checklist
Scientific names, Chinese names, taxonomy, protection levels, sensitivity ratings and Taiwan Red List categories all come from the Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (TaiCOL). Our location-blurring rules follow its sensitivity ratings and the protection levels directly.
English names
TaiCOL gives no English names, so they come from elsewhere: birds from AviList (version 2025b, the Clements names, CC BY 4.0), mammals from the Mammal Diversity Database (version 2.5, CC BY 4.0), other animals from iNaturalist's taxonomy, and a few from the Catalogue of Life (CC BY 4.0). Where none of them gives a name we can trust, we show none rather than guess, and the team fixes any name it finds wrong.
Basemap
The basemap is served by OpenFreeMap, using OpenMapTiles vector tiles built from OpenStreetMap contributors' data (ODbL).
AI models
When a report comes with a photo, an AI model, BioCLIP 2 (MIT licence), tries to name the species it shows, choosing only among species on the Taiwan checklist. When it is sure enough, it names the species itself and the record is labelled “Identified by AI”; otherwise the record is published as not yet identified, and its page may list the species the model suggests. A moderator can correct any identification. MegaDetector (MIT licence), which can crop a photo to the animal, is switched off.
Photographs
The photographs on the home page are from Wikimedia Commons, all taken in Taiwan. Each is credited where it appears; the photographer and licence are listed here too.
